The Dallas Cowboys eked out a 20-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night, improving to 4-2 and moving to within a game of the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East.

However, the Cowboys’ offense didn’t look great once again. Through the first six weeks, Dallas ranks 17th in the NFL in offense and its aerial attack ranks just 19th.

Those aren’t great numbers for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations, so the Cowboys may need to address their shaky passing game between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine sees a potential solution: Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz.

Dallas is certainly familiar with Ertz from all of his time in Philadelphia. The veteran spent the first eight-and-a-half years of his career with the Eagles before being traded to the Cardinals midway through 2021.

Arizona is just 1-5 this season and appears headed for another rebuild in the spring. The 32-year-old Ertz doesn’t really fit the club’s timeline, so it stands to reason that the Cardinals could look to move him over the next couple of weeks.

Ertz actually has another year remaining on his deal after this season and is set to earn a base salary of just under $8 million in 2024, so the Cards would have some extra incentive to trade him in order to free up some money.

Tight end has been a problem area for the Cowboys for several years now, and while Ertz isn’t the same Pro Bowl pass-catcher from years back, he would at least represent a significant improvement at the position for Dallas.

In six games this year, Ertz has logged 24 catches for 168 yards and a touchdown.

Ertz would definitely open up the field for CeeDee Lamb and the rest of the Cowboys’ receivers and would provide a reliable outlet for Dak Prescott on short and intermediate routes.
