The Dallas Cowboys clearly need to improve their roster after another disappointing playoff exit, and they could turn to the Los Angeles Chargers for help this offseason.
In a piece where Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine proposes several trades that the Cowboys could make to bolster their Super Bowl chances for next season, he mentions Chargers defensive lineman Joey Bosa as a possibility.
Los Angeles is currently mired in a miserable salary cap situation, and trading Bosa would open up $14.4 million in cap space for the club.
While the Chargers—who are $44 million over the cap—would still have work to do in order to get their financial situation straight even after moving Bosa, it would at least be a start.
Ballentine suggests that Dallas could send the 24th overall pick to LA in a straight up swap for Bosa, which would certainly fulfill needs on both sides.
Bosa has been plagued by injuries each of the last two years, as he played in a combined 14 games between 2022 and 2023. This past season, he logged 20 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in nine contests.
The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by the Chargers with the third overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.
He has logged double-digit sacks four times, topping out at 12.5 sacks during his second season. In his last healthy campaign in 2021, Bosa racked up 10.5 sacks.
Bosa has made four trips to the Pro Bowl.
The Cowboys already have Micah Parsons, but they could certainly stand to add another prolific pass rusher like Bosa this offseason.
Dallas went 12-5 and lost to the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs this year.
