Cowboys Trade For Broncos’ Courtland Sutton In Bold Scenario

The Dallas Cowboys have gotten off to a 3-1 start and are coming off of a breakthrough offensive performance in which they dropped 38 points on a hapless New England Patriots defense. However, there is still no question that the Cowboys could use some depth at wide receiver. Yes, the club has CeeDee Lamb, but the inconsistency of veterans like Brandin Cooks and Michael Gallup could prompt Dallas to make a move at the position. Could Denver Broncos wide out Courtland Sutton represent a potential target?

The Broncos are just 1-3. Sure, they defeated the Chicago Bears for their first win of the season this past weekend, but beating the Bears isn’t indicative of much of anything. Denver is still pretty clearly not a contender, and with the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline looming, the front office could very well sell off some pieces in the coming weeks.

Sutton was once one of the top up and coming receivers in football. He joined the league as a second-round pick of the Broncos in 2018, and in his second season, he hauled in 72 receptions for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns.

Unfortunately for Sutton, a torn ACL ended his 2020 campaign after just one game, and he hasn’t come close to replicating is 2019 production ever since.

That being said, just because Sutton did not became an elite pass-catcher does not mean that he isn’t a solid player.

Through four games this season, the 27-year-old has logged 20 catches for 216 yards and three touchdowns, and a year ago, Sutton caught 64 passes for 829 yards and a couple of scores. Those are still decent numbers, even if they are not exactly on par with what he did four years ago.

The Cowboys could send a 2024 second-round draft pick and a sixth-rounder to Denver in exchange for Sutton, which would be a heck of a return for a guy who is definitely not a No. 1 receiver.

While this deal may never even be considered, it’s certainly one that could make perfect sense for both teams and would put Courtland Sutton in an excellent position as well.
