Star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has been in the middle of some trade rumors this offseason. It was reported weeks ago that the Arizona Cardinals would be open to trading him and with the NFL Draft set to get underway next week, there is no better time than now to get a deal done.
The Cardinals are going into a reset with a new regime of general manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon. While Gannon has expressed his belief that DeAndre Hopkins will be in the lineup for the Cardinals in Week 1, signs are pointing to him being on the move.
Some reports have indicated that teams believe the Cardinals will eventually cut DeAndre Hopkins because of his contract. But, it would be hard to believe they would pass up on the chance to add some assets in the form of draft capital.
He has been a hot name in the rumor mill and it is easy to understand why. While DeAndre Hopkins has had some struggles staying on the field the last two seasons, missing 15 games, he remains very productive.
There are a number of teams around the NFL who could use a pass catcher of his caliber on their roster. During a recent appearance on the All Things Covered podcast, DeAndre Hopkins was asked to reveal which teams he would prefer to be traded to. Some of his reactions may surprise you.
As you can see in the video, DeAndre Hopkins wouldn’t be thrilled about landing with the New York Jets or New England Patriots. Instead, he would prefer being traded to the Buffalo Bills or Kansas City Chiefs, two contenders in the AFC.
The opportunity to potentially play with Aaron Rodgers, who is hoping to get traded to the Jets, would certainly be appealing. But New York has a crowded wide receiver depth chart after signing Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman this offseason to join Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis and Denzel Mims.
The Patriots have a shaky quarterback situation with Mac Jones, which would deter most veteran wide receivers from wanting to head there. The Bills and Chiefs, on the other hand, have bonafide superstars in Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes as their starting quarterbacks.
That is partly what makes the Bills and Chiefs such attractive landing spots for DeAndre Hopkins in a trade. He would have a chance to not only compete for a championship but rack up stats in a hurry catching passes from either of them.
