The Las Vegas Raiders made a significant announcement on Friday by officially appointing Antonio Pierce as their new head football coach.

Pierce, who previously held the interim head coaching position, demonstrated his prowess by leading the team to a series of impressive victories, including a memorable 20-14 triumph on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs.

This decision received well-deserved recognition from Deion Sanders, the head coach of Colorado, who extended his congratulations to Pierce on this remarkable opportunity.

Under Pierce’s leadership, following his takeover in Week 9, the Raiders exhibited a remarkable improvement in their defensive performance. They stood among the NFL’s top ten teams in takeaways, recording a total of 14 turnovers.

Additionally, they secured the fifth position in turnover margin, boasting a commendable +6 ratio. Impressively, the Raiders also ranked third in the league for sacks, showcasing their formidable defense.

Most notably, the team’s defense excelled in minimizing opposition scoring, allowing an astonishingly low average of just 16.0 points per game, which was the best in the league.

Before embarking on his NFL coaching journey, Antonio Pierce had a successful stint with the Arizona State Sun Devils. Initially serving as their linebackers coach, he later took on the roles of associate head coach and defensive coordinator.

In 2021, he earned a promotion to the position of defensive coordinator, and his impact was evident in the Sun Devils’ defensive performance. Under his guidance, the Sun Devils led the Pac-12 in scoring defense, conceding only 20.8 points per game, and ranked first in total yards allowed per game with an impressive 326.3 yards.

Moreover, they tied for first in defensive touchdowns, secured the second position in interceptions with 16, and ranked second in sacks with 27. Pierce’s track record clearly reflects his expertise in coaching and developing formidable defensive units.

Clearly, Deion Sanders realizes how good of a move this is for both the Raiders and Pierce.
