The Philadelphia Eagles are in the market for some help in their backfield. Their starter in 2023, D’Andre Swift, is on the way out of town. Minutes after the NFL’s moratorium for signing players opened, it was reported that Swift would be heading to the Chicago Bears on a three-year deal.
With Swift leaving town, the Eagles have a huge void to fill in their backfield. Normally, Philadelphia isn’t a team that spends much money on the running back position, but that could change this offseason.
Reports have been all over the place about their potential interest in New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. He is someone that the Eagles know well from trying to slow him down as an opponent the last six seasons; could he change allegiances and head to the City of Brotherly Love?
It certainly sounds like that is a possibility. According to Art Stapleton of The Record Sports, NorthJersey.com and USAToday Network, the Eagles are preparing to make a strong push for Barkley in free agency.

This would be a devastating turn of events for the Giants and their fans. Watching a beloved player leave in free agency is hard enough. Seeing them join a bitter divisional rival would sting even more.
As Stapleton noted, the Eagles weren’t considered a serious suitor at points given their hesitancy to commit big money to running backs. But, with Swift out the door, it increases the possibility that they would be willing to spend on Barkley.
It will be something to keep an eye on as Barkley will reportedly have plenty if suitors. The Bears were one of them, but they are now out of the race with Swift coming to town. The Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens are two more teams to keep an eye on.
