The Philadelphia Eagles have already gone to great lengths this offseason to put their 2023 collapse behind them. The biggest moves, to this point, has been the overhauling of the coaching staff under head coach Nick Sirianni.
While Sirianni held onto his job, plenty of coaches under him were left to go. For the third straight year, he is going to have new offensive and defensive coordinators. Only this time, those replacements were made by choice, not necessity.
Last offseason, the Eagles lost Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon to head coaching jobs. This offseason, Brian Johnson and Sean Desai were fired because of the team’s lack of production on both sides of the ball.

Taking over for Johnson as offensive coordinator will be Kellen Moore. The Eagles are Moore’s third team in as many seasons. He spent 2023 with the Los Angeles Chargers but when Brandon Staley was fired and replaced by Jim Harbaugh, Moore was on the move again.
Before his season in Los Angeles, Moore was the offensive coordinator for four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He is now crossing over to the other side of the rivalry, as he will be looking to help Philadelphia defeat Dallas.
What can we expect to see from Moore? While there hasn’t been time to install schemes and plays, his track record speaks for itself. Moore has overseen some explosive offenses in his coaching career and Sirianni believes the two will be a good match for each other.
“He’s been highly successful, and we’ve been highly successful,” Sirianni said of Moore. “I’m really looking forward to meshing what he’s really done well with the things that we’ve done really well. Again, I think it’s going to be a really good match.”

It will be interesting to see how the two blend their styles together. Sirianni, despite not calling plays since midway through the 2021 season, often refers to that side of the ball as ‘his offense’.
How will ‘his offense’ differ from what Moore wants to install and run in 2024? The dynamic will be one people keep a close eye on as 2024 is a big year for both coaches. While Moore did bring a few coaches with him from the Chargers, a majority of the Eagles’ staff from last year has been retained, making the power structure one that needs to be ironed out right from the start.
“We know those are really good coaches,” Sirianni said. “Have a lot of faith in them. It’s the meshing of two systems to grow in both systems and put the best product on the field. That’s why that’s kind of stayed similar because we’re going to be doing different things, but we’re also going to be doing things we’re successful at.”
It certainly sounds like Sirianni is optimistic that things will work out. Moore has a good track record and there is a lot of talent to work with on this Eagles offense.
