The Dallas Cowboys have once again left their fans disappointed, showcasing Jerry Jones’ questionable decision-making in the 2024 offseason.

Jones controversially opted to retain Mike McCarthy as the team’s head coach and pledged to pursue an aggressive approach during the offseason.

However, this supposed commitment to success resulted in the departure of key offensive linemen and their starting running back, without securing extensions for their star players.

Heading into the NFL Draft, the Cowboys had a glaring need for running back depth, yet none of their draft picks were used to address this issue.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, this decision stemmed from the Dallas Cowboys’ realization of the importance of maintaining a strong offensive line, considering running backs as more readily available and cost-effective options.

Jones emphasized the need to compensate for the losses of Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz, which appeared logical. However, their current running back roster, featuring Rico Dowdle, Royce Freeman, Malik Davis, and Deuce Vaughn, hardly reflects a “go all-in” mentality.

Despite the draft’s lack of standout running back prospects, numerous top-tier free agents, including Derrick Henry, were available for consideration.

Now, reports suggest a potential reunion with Ezekiel Elliott, just a year after letting him go due to concerns about his declining performance.

It will be interesting to see what kind for running game the Dallas Cowboys are able to put together this season.
