The Chicago Bears find themselves in a pivotal position in the 2024 NFL Draft, holding the coveted No. 1 pick.

Their decision is twofold: they can either opt for a fresh quarterback to helm their roster or build around the promising talent of Justin Fields.

In a recent segment on ESPN’s “Get Up,” esteemed analyst Mel Kiper Jr. weighed in on how he would handle this critical choice with the No. 1 pick.

Kiper’s recommendation is clear: the Bears should use their top pick to secure USC quarterback Caleb Williams and, simultaneously, consider trading Justin Fields to accumulate valuable draft assets.

Caleb Williams has unquestionably caught the attention of Kiper, earning the status of his top prospect for the upcoming offseason. This assessment is hardly surprising, given Williams’ impressive college football career statistics. Over three years, he amassed an impressive 10,082 passing yards, added 966 rushing yards to his repertoire, and boasted a remarkable total of 120 touchdowns.

Should the Bears decide to anoint Caleb Williams as their next franchise quarterback, it would come with an immense weight of expectations from day one. The situation is further complicated by the significant segment of the Chicago fan base that champions Justin Fields as the team’s incumbent starter.

However, Mel Kiper emphasizes that the Bears’ front office must remain steadfast in their decision-making process, impervious to external pressures and fan sentiment. Their paramount concern should be the betterment of the team, and Kiper unequivocally asserts that, in his view, this entails drafting Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick.
