The Buffalo Bills came into the 2023 season with Super Bowl aspirations. They were among the favorites to win the Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl 58, but they were unable to live up to those expectations.

Despite earning the No. 2 seed in the AFC and having home-field advantage in the first two games, the Bills could not capitalize. After defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers during Super Wild Card Weekend 31-17, they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24.

It was a tough spot for the Bills, who had their game against the Steelers postponed one day because of inclement weather. That gave the Chiefs a distinct rest advantage, as they played on Saturday compared to Monday. With a Sunday night game the following week, Kansas City was well-rested and ready to go.

Buffalo certainly could have used a few extra days off as they were ravaged by injuries. Their defense, specifically the linebacker position, was hit hard. That led to the disappointing end to the season, as another playoff kick going wide right will haunt Bills fans.

With their offseason now underway, there are a few things people will be keeping an eye on. The status of star wide receiver Stefon Diggs will garner some headlines, and there will be some people pushing for a coaching change.

It doesn’t look like head coach Sean McDermott will be going anywhere, for now, but there has been some chatter of people wanting to see them move on. If that were to occur, Evan Cohen of ESPN believes that former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would be the man for the job.

Belichick looks like he won’t be coaching in the NFL in 2024 as only the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks have job openings. With general managers locked into place, having personnel control won’t happen, thus making the jobs unappealing to Belichick.

That is partially why he isn’t going to be the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, as their power structure changed. Instead, they hired Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

Even the Carolina Panthers, whom Cohen suggested go after McDermott, filled their opening. They hired Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dave Canales to take over as head coach. An offensive-minded coach is a smart hire as the No. 1 goal in Carolina is developing Bryce Young, the first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

A move to the Bills in the AFC East would likely be appealing to Belichick. It would give him a chance to compete against the Patriots and work with a star quarterback, as the lack of one the final few years in New England marred his tenure with the franchise.
