Fantasy Football: 3 reasons you should take Patrick Mahomes over Lamar Jackson

Potential Regression For Jackson

There is no doubting that Lamar Jackson will continue to be one of the absolute best talents to have in fantasy football in 2020. Something to at least consider is that there could be some potential for a bit of statistical regression.

Even Patrick Mahomes experienced declines in his per game production after having such an explosive MVP campaign in 2018. Opposing teams make it a point to find the formula to slow down the next big thing and that’s what Jackson became last season.

The analysis by Heath Cummings of CBS Sports detailing potential regression from Jackson made many great points. It’s unlikely Jackson replicates that 9.0% touchdown rate or averages 6.9 yards per carry for the Ravens in 2020, as Cummings noted.

As for Mahomes, he’s one year further along in this process. He was able to experience the adjustments opposing teams made to his breakout season and can come back with a plan to attack those strategies. This provides a favorable fantasy football outlook for the upcoming season.
