Fantasy Football: 3 risky quarterback plays in Week 5

Congratulations, Fantasy Football managers. If you’re reading this, it means you’ve made it through Week 4 of the 2020 season. The first month has put all of us through the ringer as an untold number of fantasy superstars — Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley being the most notable — have sustained serious injuries, so waiver wires in deeper leagues are likely running alarmingly thin right now.

Therefore, fantasy owners will need to be as sharp as ever entering a pivotal Week 5, which could make or break some seasons depending on where you lie in your respective standings. Fortunately enough, the quarterback position (for the most part) has held up on the injury front.

According to Fantasy Pros, the current top five players at the position in standard scoring leagues are Dak Prescott (125.2), Russell Wilson (124.9), Josh Allen (120.3), Kyler Murray (108.2), and Patrick Mahomes (108.1). Based on their pedigree and current form, the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Lamar Jackson also fall under the “set it and forget it” category.

However, the same cannot be said for that 8-16 range, all of whom are incredibly prone to a stinker that could absolutely derail any chance you have at winning your matchup. It pains us to admit it, but Deshaun Watson now fills that bill due to his lack of weapons and inability to elude the Texans ineptitude. For the sake of all his owners, let’s hope the firing of head coach and de facto general manager Bill O’Brien helps him turn the corner.

In the meantime, however, continue reading to see if Watson qualifies for our risky quarterback plays in Week 5, when byes impose their wrath on the fantasy world for the first time each season.

Full disclosure: Baker Mayfield fell just short of making the list, but we seriously doubt fantasy managers have been playing him weekly in light of the Browns’ run-heavy offensive scheme to open the season. We know running back Nick Chubb was just placed on injured reserve with an MCL injury, but a date with the Colts’ league-leading defense awaits Cleveland.

Here are three quarterbacks who are risky Fantasy Football plays in Week 5.
