Fantasy Football: Position-by-Position Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Picks for Week 15

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

TEs to start in Week 15

Giants’ Evan Engram (vs. Browns): Evan Engram is one of the most consistent TEs in the NFL when it comes to offensive workload. The former first-round pick has had five or more targets in nine out of his 13 games this season for the Giants. Whether it is Daniel Jones or Colt McCoy under center in Week 15, Engram could have a bounce-back game against the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland’s defense has given up 16.21 fantasy points per week (second-most in the NFL) and nine touchdowns (tied for third-most in the NFL) to TEs.

Vikings’ Irv Smith Jr. (vs. Bears): When Irv Smith Jr. has been given opportunities this season, he’s made the most of them. In the five games he’s gotten four or more targets for the Vikings, Smith has eclipsed 10+ fantasy points in four of them. There’s a chance — especially if Kyle Rudolph is out again — that Smith could have another double-digit outing in Week 15 versus the Chicago Bears. Chicago’s defense has shown a tendency to be weak against TEs, allowing 15.56 fantasy points per week (third-most in the NFL) and nine touchdowns (tied for third-most in the NFL) to the position.

Other TEs to consider in Week 15: Buccaneers’ Rob Gronkowski (vs. Falcons), Steelers’ Eric Ebron (vs. Bengals), Packers’ Robert Tonyan (vs. Panthers)

TEs to sit in Week 15

Cowboys’ Dalton Schultz (vs. 49ers): Following the loss of Dak Prescott earlier this season, the pass-catchers of the Cowboys — outside of Amari Cooper — have been far from viable starters in fantasy football each week. After recording two games with 17+ fantasy points with Prescott, Dalton Schultz has surpassed 11+ fantasy points just twice without Prescott. His lack of production will likely continue against the 49ers, who have limited opposing TEs to 47 receptions (second-fewest in the NFL) and a league-low 8.39 fantasy points per week.

Texans’ Jordan Akins (vs. Colts): Due to the shortage of weapons Deshaun Watson has been given recently, everyone was clamoring for Jordan Akins, hoping he’d become a worthy option in fantasy football. Despite the Texans losing Will Fuller, Randall Cobb, and Brandin Cooks, Akins has produced five or fewer fantasy points in five of his last six games. There’s no reason to believe he finds his groove against the Colts in Week 15, who have given up only 9.98 fantasy points per week (fourth-fewest in the NFL) and two touchdowns (tied for second-fewest in the NFL) to TEs.
