In two seasons at Memphis, Antonio Gibson had 77 touches as he mostly played wide receiver. Of those touches, 71 came last year. He averaged 19.3 yards per catch and 11.2 yards per carry with his sprinkling of work out of the backfield in 2019, with 12 total touchdowns. In the third round of April’s draft, Washington made a bet on Gibson’s potential.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera compared Gibson’s skill set to Christian McCaffrey’s. But Gibson entered August basically No. 3 on the depth chart, behind Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson, with his best path to playing time as a multi-purpose/passing down option.
But then Guice had an off the field issue surface, and he was cut. On Friday morning, ahead of final roster cuts, the team announced that Adrian Peterson would be released.
So now, Gibson sits atop a depth chart that includes Bryce Love, Peyton Barber and J.D. McKissic.
What is the new fantasy football outlook for Gibson as a rookie?
