Fantasy Football: Why Jared Goff is currently undervalued in drafts

What makes Goff undervalued in fantasy football drafts in 2020?

At the time this article is being written, Goff is the 17th quarterback off of the board in redraft leagues on average, according to MyFantasyLeague. Once again, Goff mightily struggled for a large portion of the 2019 season due to a makeshift offensive line and a myriad of self-inflicting decisions.

Still, even when Goff played below his standards last season, he finished as the 13th highest-scoring quarterback in fantasy football. So that shows us that Goff has a surprisingly safe floor despite his underwhelming play at times. In the past three seasons — since he’s been with McVay — Goff has finished no worse than the 13th highest-scoring quarterback. Before the 2019 campaign, Goff was the 12th highest-scoring passer in 2017, and he finished as the No. 7 quarterback in fantasy football in 2018.

It’s hard to believe that Goff is going to be playing behind a worse offensive line than last season’s group. While the Rams didn’t make any notable additions, they retained Andrew Whitworth. And the decision to permanently move Austin Blythe to center could pay dividends. Not to mention, Los Angeles should get a healthier version of Rob Havenstein in the upcoming season.

Of course, another positive for Goff is the array of weapons he has at his disposal yet again. Following the move to trade Brandin Cooks, Los Angeles still has Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Josh Reynolds, Tyler Higbee, and Gerald Everett. Meanwhile, Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson figure to contribute as receivers out of the backfield after the departure of Todd Gurley.

Some people may avoid Goff in fantasy football drafts simply because they believe he’s not a franchise quarterback. Regardless of what everyone’s opinion of him on the field is, he’s proven that his current ADP makes him fairly undervalued entering the 2020 season.
