The NCAA Transfer Portal window may be closed for most players at Florida State, but there’s still an opportunity for graduate transfers to explore new options at any time.

Recently, on a Friday afternoon, redshirt senior defensive tackle Dennis Briggs Jr. made a move by entering the portal.

Briggs Jr. had already exhausted his eligibility last season, but he’s in the process of applying for a waiver that could potentially grant him a seventh year of eligibility. This decision comes after his unfortunate absence for the majority of the 2021 season due to a lower-body injury.

Initially, he had plans to return to the Seminoles, but now he’s opened the door to communicate with other programs.

In the 2023 season, Briggs managed to appear in ten games for the Seminoles, despite battling injuries. His stats for the season included 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two quarterback hurries. Throughout his time with the team, Briggs played multiple roles, shifting between defensive end and the interior defensive line.

Over the course of six years in Tallahassee, Briggs left his mark with impressive numbers: 78 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and four pass deflections in 49 appearances, including ten starts. He held the distinction of being the longest-tenured member of the roster, having signed with Florida State under former head coach Willie Taggart back in 2018.

While Briggs explores his options, the Seminoles are still expected to maintain a talented interior defensive line. This group includes redshirt junior Joshua Farmer, redshirt junior Darrell Jackson, redshirt junior Grady Kelly, redshirt sophomore Daniel Lyons, redshirt freshman KJ Sampson, true freshman Jamorie Flagg, and true freshman D’Nas White.
