Former MVP Reveals Dire Prediction For New York Giants

It is hard to find any positives surrounding the New York Giants currently. After Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the team’s record has dropped to 2-8 on the season, a huge step back from their 2022 campaign that included a victory on the road in the postseason.

Everything that could have gone wrong for the Giants in 2023 has to this point. Against the Cowboys, they started undrafted free agent quarterback Tommy DeVito as Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor were both injured. Jones tore his ACL and is out for the season while Taylor suffered a rib injury in Week 8 against the New York Jets and is likely done.

The only thing the Giants and their fans have to look forward to right now is the top pick which should be coming their way in the 2024 NFL Draft. That selection could be the biggest move the franchise makes in what will be a busy offseason in the opinion of one former MVP.

Boomer Esiason, a former NFL MVP quarterback turned analyst, believes some major changes are coming for New York this offseason. In what has been an embarrassing season for the Giants, owner John Mara is going to clean house in some ways in the opinion of Esiason.

“People will end up losing jobs over there with the Giants,” Esiason directly said during Monday’s edition of the WFAN “Boomer and Gio” program, per Ryan Chichester of Audacy. “I don’t know who will, but somebody will. Somebody is going to have to pay for this. Players are gonna be shipped out of here. Other players will be brought in…do you trust the [general manager]? Do you trust the head coach? All of these questions will have to be asked and answered over the last eight weeks of the NFL season.”

Barring anything unforeseen unfolding, general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll aren’t going anywhere. Hours after the Giants were blown out by the Cowboys 49-17, it was reported both of them were safe in their current positions.

Firing a fourth consecutive head coach before they get into Year 3 would be disastrous for the franchise. Ownership has to realize this will take some time, as Year 1 and Year 2 have been polar extremes. They deserve the necessary time to fix the mess the previous regime left behind.

Despite that, Esiason believes that Schoen and Daboll have seats that are at least warming up. In his opinion, they need to show something in the last seven games of the season to ensure they return.

“This is going to be a long two months for the Giants, their fans, the front office, the coaching staff, and their players,” Esiason added. “I would say the last three weeks are enough for people to lose jobs.”

Esiason is referencing the overtime loss to the Jets as when things took a turn for the worse. The Giants looked to have iced the game before Graham Gano missed his second field goal, putting the Jets in position to tie the game with a field goal before regulation expired.

Ultimately, that loss may somewhat help the Giants as the loose spiling up will put them closer to the top of the 2024 NFL Draft. If they can land a quarterback to take over as the face of the franchise, this season will be an easier one to stomach.
