The New York Jets are in need of some weapons in their aerial attack, and former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum sees a pretty interesting target for them this offseason.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
During an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up on Friday morning, Tannenbaum suggested that New York trade linebacker C.J. Mosley to the Cowboys in exchange for Cooks in a deal that would solve some needs on both sides.
“This really works well for both teams. Look the Jets need outside speed [opposite] of Garrett Wilson with Aaron Rodgers coming back. They have depth in their front seven,” Tannenbaum explained. “The Cowboys desperately need size and speed at middle linebacker. This is really going to help both teams.”
Mosley has been viewed as a potential cut candidate for the Jets, as New York has very limited cap room and can save some money by releasing Mosley, who is entering the final year of his deal.
The same can be said for Cooks, who was a fairly big disappointment during his debut campaign in Dallas.
In 16 games this past season, Cooks logged 54 catches for 657 yards and eight touchdowns, marking the second straight year he posted underwhelming numbers relative to his career norms.
Two years ago, the 30-year-old caught 57 passes for 699 yards and three scores with the Houston Texans.
While Cooks may no longer be the same receiver who posted six 1,000-yard campaigns between 2015 and 2021, he could still help bolster the Jets’ receiving corps, which is mighty thin behind Wilson.
Meanwhile, Mosley racked up 152 tackles in 2023 and would patch a decent-sized hole at linebacker for the Cowboys.
