Former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis has been found dead in Florida, according to a report from Julian Quintana of WSVN.
Davis was 35 years old.
The body of the former NFL star was found at his grandmother’s home in Southwest Ranches. Foul play is not suspected.
Police arrived at the scene on Monday morning.
Davis, who played his collegiate football at the University of Illinois, was originally selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 25th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.
He spent the first three years of his career with the Dolphins before being traded to the Colts in August 2012, shortly before the season began.
It was in Indianapolis that Davis truly shined.
After an injury-plagued debut campaign with the Colts, Davis started every game in 2013, registering 46 tackles, an interception and 12 passes defended.
Then, the following year, Davis broke out, posting 42 tackles, four picks, a couple of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 18 passes defended en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
He would go on to tally very similar numbers the next season, finishing with 48 tackles, four interceptions and 16 passes defended, making his second straight trip to the Pro Bowl in the process.
After spending six years in Indianapolis, Davis signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2018. However, he played just one contest with the Bills before retiring midgame.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Davis’ family and friends.
