The New York Giants were the busiest team in the NFL during the first day of the legal tampering period. It started slow and disappointing for the fan base, as two captains, running back Saquon Barkley and safety Xavier McKinney, departed.
Barkley signed a three-year, $37.75 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, crushing some people. McKinney signed a four-year, $68 million deal with the Green Bay Packers to become the new leader of their secondary.
Instead of spending $32 million on average to retain them, Joe Schoen got to work filling out the roster. The biggest splash was acquiring star edge rusher Brian Burns in a trade with the Carolina Panthers and signing him to a five-year, $150 million deal.

The Giants put some assets into upgrading the offensive line, coming away with Jon Runyan Jr. and Jermaine Eluemenor. Devin Singletary was signed to replace Barkley in the backfield and the team was able to re-sign special teams aces Gunner Olszewski and Carter Coughlin.
That is a great start for New York, but there is still work to be done. One of the positions people are keeping an eye on is quarterback. Will the Giants wait until the 2024 NFL Draft and take a chance that one of the prospects falls to them? Or will they sign a veteran who can compete with Jones right from the start?
With last season’s backup, Tyrod Taylor, departing and signing with the New York Jets, it is a sizable void to fill. One player to keep an eye on, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, is Jameis Winston.
Anderson shared this morning that the Giants are among the teams showing some early interest in the former No. 1 overall pick. Along with New York, the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans have been linked to Winston.

It will be interesting to see what Winston feels is most important when looking for a new team. If it is winning over everything, the Browns make for an ideal choice as they are closest to contending.
If Winston wants the best shot at getting on the field, the Giants should be his choice. He would have a legitimate chance at starting given the health concerns of Daniel Jones. Winson could also beat out Jones in a competition in the offseason.
