The New York Giants had a historical comeback in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, leading to a 31-28 victory. The Giants trailed 20-0 at halftime and were down by as many as 21 in the third quarter. But, they scored the final 24 points of the game to escape with an unlikely and much-needed win.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all positive after the game. On the team’s final drive for the game-winning field goal, running back Saquon Barkley suffered what looked to be an ankle injury.

He needed help getting off the field and was very frustrated on the bench. He was seen slamming his helmet, which leads you to believe that the injury could be a serious one. Alas, there has not yet been an official update on his ankle.

However, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, Barkley was seen walking okay after the game. Others have said that his demeanor was not good, but that doesn’t give any more of an update about his status heading into the future.

What makes the timing of this injury so bad is that the Giants have a quick turnaround in Week 3. They will be on the road again to play against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football.

Facing off against the 49ers is a tall enough task; if the Giants have to do it without their star running back, things could get very ugly for the team offensively. Before their second-half explosion against the Cardinals, New York was being outscored 60-0 in the first six quarters of the season.

Barkley is going to do everything he can to be on the field Thursday night. The incentives in the contract he and the Giants agreed to right before training camp were already set at near career-high levels; should he miss even a single game, reaching those plateaus will be that much tougher
