The 2023 season had very few bright spots for the New York Giants. They struggled mightily, going 6-11 as their offense was never able to get on track. Starting quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a neck injury and tore his ACL, and wasn’t very good even when healthy on the field.

His backup, Tyrod Taylor, outplayed him significantly and gave the Giants their best chance to win any time he was on the field. But, he also dealt with injuries during the season, which pushed third-stringer Tommy DeVito into action.

An undrafted free agent out of Illinois, who also played collegiately at Syracuse, was a local kid. He grew up in Livingston, New Jersey and attended Don Bosco Prep, playing in MetLife Stadium in high school.

He opted to sign with the Giants instead of the Washington Commanders in the offseason, which turned out to be the right decision. He started six games for New York, going 3-3 while appearing in nine total.

All things considered, DeVito played better than anyone could have imagined. He completed 64 percent of his passes for 1,101 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. DeVito added 195 yards on the ground with another score.

There were shortcomings in his performance on the field, which you would expect from an undrafted free agent. But, DeVito gave fans something to cheer about and get behind during what amounted to a lost season.

Alas, the ride with the Giants could be coming to an end. As shared by MLFootball on X, DeVito is unlikely to earn a roster spot for the 2024 season. “It is a good thing “Tommy Cutlets” took full advantage of his 15 minutes of fame, because he doesn’t seem to be a big part of the #Giants future plans.”

NFL News & Rumors: Tommy DeVito & New York Giants Updates

That shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Jones isn’t going anywhere and the Giants signed quarterback Drew Lock in free agency. New York has been rumored to be interested in selecting a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, which could squeeze DeVito out of a roster spot.

Keeping him around for the offseason is certainly possible, as the Giants will need healthy bodies in the spring and during training camp. But, once Jones is healthy enough to get on the field, combined with a potential new draft pick, there just won’t be room for DeVito on the roster.
