The New York Giants were able to finish their 2023 season on a high note, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 in Week 18. It was their most dominant performance of the season, as Big Blue saved their best for last against an NFC East rival, never trailing in the game.

Mason Crosby kicked a 24-yard field goal in the first quarter on the team’s second drive of the game and they didn’t look back. New York led by as many as 24 points in the game to cap off what has been a difficult season.

One of the standout performers in the game was quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Taylor took a few hard hits in the game, exiting on more than one occasion to get checked out on the sidelines. But, he showed toughness returning to a game each time despite there not being much on the line.

He was able to pick apart the Eagles’ secondary with timely deep throws and precision passing. Taylor completed 23-of-32 passes for 297 yards, one touchdown and one interception. His interception was on a forced pass near the end of the first half as the Giants were trying to get Sterling Shepard a touchdown in his farewell game with the team.

Not only did Taylor succeed through the air, he was also able to produce with his legs. He ran the ball eight times, gaining 38 yards and keeping the offense on track. It was a strong performance, as he found a ton of success against the Eagles in six quarters this season.

On Christmas Day, Taylor relieved Tommy DeVito at halftime with the Giants facing a 20-3 deficit. He helped them get back into the game, scoring 15 consecutive points in the third quarter. They ultimately lost the game 33-25 as Taylor threw for 133 yards with one touchdown and one interception with 21 rushing yards.

Out of the three quarterbacks who started for the Giants this season, it was clear Taylor found the most success in running Brian Daboll’s offense. He knew when to take shots down field and wwiling to attempt those passes.

It resulted in two strong finishes to the season, as Taylor threw for 319 yards in Week 17 against the Los Angeles Rams before his 297 against the Eagles. Back-to-back 295+ passing yards games isn’t something we have seen Daniel Jones, the Giants’ starter, do since 2019.

A veteran journeyman outproducing your starter, who signed a massive four-year, $160 million extension in the offseason, is never ideal. The Giants have some hard decisions to make at the quarterback position as Jones certainly didn’t look like someone worth building around during his appearances in 2023.
