Earlier in the season, people were questioning whether or not Jordan Love was the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback of the future. Now, he has joined the elite company of Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.
After going 24-for-33 with 256 yards and three touchdowns in the Packers’ pivotal win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Love became just the third quarterback in NFL history to post at least five games with three touchdowns and no interceptions in a season at the age of 25 or younger.
The other two? You guessed it: Mahomes and Jackson (h/t Doug Clawson of CBS Sports).
What a season it has been for Love.
The 25-year-old was pressed into starting duty this year after long-time signal-caller Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets this past offseason.
Not many knew what to expect from Love, but early on, he looked solid, totaling seven touchdowns and just one pick over his first three games. More importantly, Green Bay went 2-1 in those contests.
However, over the next six weeks, Love and the Packers went into a miserable slump, as the youngster accrued seven touchdowns and nine interceptions as Green Bay went just 1-5 to fall to 3-6.
It looked like the Packers had fallen out of playoff contention entirely, and at that time, many were wondering if Green Bay would ultimately move on from Love this coming offseason.
Instead, the Utah State product has responded by racking up 16 touchdown passes and just one pick over the last seven games. The Packers have gone 5-2 during that span and have not only vaulted themselves back into postseason contention, but currently own the third and final Wild Card spot in the NFC.
If Green Bay beats the Chicago Bears at home next weekend, it will clinch a playoff berth that seemed like an impossibility a month-and-a-half ago.
Much of that is thanks to Love, who has thrown for 3,843 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 63.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 93.8 in what has been an incredible first full season as a starter under center.
It seems pretty safe to say that Jordan Love has absolutely earned the right to be labeled the Packers’ quarterback of the future.
