Green Bay Packers Projected To Move On From 3 Key Starters

The Green Bay Packers can clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Chicago Bears this Sunday, so their eyes are only set on Week 18 at the current point in time.

However, that will not step everyone else from speculating on what the Packers will do this offseason.

Matt Schneidman of The Athletic answered fan questions from his mailbag this week, and one fan asked what Green Bay will do with running back AJ Dillon, offensive lineman David Bakhtiari and linebacker De’Vondre Campbell.

Schneidman said that he thinks the Packers will cut both Bakhtiari and Campbell while allowing Dillon to walk via free agency.

This does not come as much of a surprise.

While Bakhtiari has been a fixture along Green Bay’s offensive line since being drafted in 2013, the back half of his Packers tenure has been marred by injuries. A knee injury limited him to just one game this season, and since 2020, Bakhtiari has played in a grand total of 25 contests.

When healthy, Bakhtiari is one of the best tackles in the NFL, but he is rarely healthy these days, and he is 32 years old.

Campbell was outstanding in his debut campaign in Green Bay two years ago, racking up 146 tackles en route to a First-Team All-Pro selection. However, a knee injury limited him to 13 games in a much less effective 2022, and this season, Campbell has only appeared in 10 contests.

Meanwhile, Dillon has been a major disappointment in 2023, having rushed for just 613 yards and a couple of touchdowns while averaging a meager 3.4 yards per carry. Based on his lack of production, it’s hardly a shock that the Packers feel comfortable allowing him to take his talents elsewhere this spring.

Green Bay is 8-8 heading into its regular-season finale.
