Packers Receive Major Injury Update On Aaron Jones

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones is not expected to play in his team’s Monday night matchup with the New York Giants due to a knee injury, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL media.

Jones has been limited in practice all week. He initially suffered the injury during the Packers’ Week 11 win over the Los Angeles Chargers and has been sidelined ever since.

The 29-year-old has been hampered been injuries all season long, as he also missed three games as a result of a hamstring injury earlier in the year.

In the seven games he has played in 2023, Jones has rushed for 245 yards and a couple of touchdowns while averaging 3.7 yards per carry. He has also logged 19 catches for 169 yards and a score in what has been, by far, the least productive campaign of his seven-year NFL career.

Jones, who played his collegiate football at UTEP, was originally selected by Green Bay in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He didn’t really break out until his third season, when he racked up 1,084 yards and a league-leading 16 rushing touchdowns while registering 4.6 yards per tote. In addition, he caught 49 passes for 474 yards and three scores. He then made his first (and only) Pro Bowl appearance the following year after recording 1,104 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground while averaging a robust 5.5 yards per attempt. He also snared 47 balls for 355 yards and a pair of scores as a receiver.

After taking a step back in 2021, Jones re-established himself as a major threat last season, finishing with 1,121 yards and two touchdowns as a rusher, tallying 5.3 yards per carry. On top of that, he hauled in 59 receptions for 395 yards and five scores.

Because Aaron Jones has been largely absent from the Packers’ backfield this season, Green Bay’s rushing attack has struggled, ranking 19th in the NFL with 104.9 yards per game.

In spite of that, the Packers have won three games in a row to miraculously vault themselves back into playoff contention in the NFC. They are 6-6 overall.
