The Green Bay Packers have signed cornerback Gemon Green, according to Bill Huber of Packer Central.

Green went undrafted last year and signed with the New York Giants. However, he failed to make the roster, and he ended up undergoing shoulder surgery.

The 24-year-old played his collegiate football at the University of Michigan and spent four seasons with the Wolverines.

He hardly got any playing time during his debut campaign, but he was able to get some burn in his second year, finishing with 22 tackles and eight passes defended.

The following season, Green posted 22 tackles and an interception, and in his last year at Michigan, he registered 20 tackles and four passes defended.

It remains to be seen if Green even makes the Packers’ roster. Green Bay finished ninth in passing defense in 2023 and signed top-flight safety Xavier McKinney to replace the departed Darnell Savage, so it’s not like the Packers’ secondary is a major area of need.

If anything, Green will likely serve as a depth signing for Green Bay, especially if fellow cornerback Jaire Alexander fails to stay healthy again.

More than a cornerback, the Packers actually need another safety to put alongside of McKinney, and that is something they will probably address through the NFL Draft later this month.

Green Bay was one of the league’s most pleasant surprises in 2023, going 9-8 and making the playoffs. It even went on to upset the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round before falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.

The Packers will be a trendy pick to make some noise in the NFC next season.
