The Green Bay Packers have been struggling, as they have lost two straight games after getting off to a 2-1 start. Could they look to make an aggressive trade? Possibly even for a superstar running back like the Tennessee Titans’ Derrick Henry?
While Jordan Love’s subpar play over the last two weeks have been the biggest issue for the Packers, their lack of a run game is also a major problem.
Featured back Aaron Jones has been in and out of the lineup due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 1. He missed Weeks 2 and 3, returned in Week 4 and was sidelined yet again during Green Bay’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night.
Clearly, Jones is not 100 percent, and you have to wonder if this is an issue that will pester him throughout the season (hamstring injuries can be tricky). On top of that, AJ Dillon has not exactly been effective in his stead.
Could the Packers place a call to the Titans to see if Henry is available?
The Titans are 2-3, and while they play in the very winnable AFC South, they probably aren’t beating out the Jacksonville Jaguars or Indianapolis Colts in the end. Ryan Tannehill has been miserable under center, and the defense has been below average.
Taking those factors into consideration, the Titans could aim to move Henry ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline before losing the impending free agent for nothing during the offseason.
Green Bay could offer Dillon, a 2024 first-round draft pick and a fourth-rounder to Tennessee in exchange for Henry. That would be a sizeable return for Henry, who is 29 years old and seems to be on the verge of a decline.
Derrick Henry’s presence would aid Love significantly and would unquestionably provide the Packers with a much-needed offensive boost.
Is Henry the same 2,000-yard halfback from 2020? No, but he is still better than what Green Bay currently has, and he would definitely make the team better.
