Here’s How Jets Could Pull Off Trade For Davante Adams

Davante Adams, Jets

The 2023 season was a disaster for the New York Jets. The injury to future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers derailed any chances the team had at finding success this season. However, his absence also provided them a chance to evaluate the rest of the roster and see where weaknesses existed that needed improving.

One of those weaknesses is at wide receiver. The Jets have a bonafide star in Garrett Wilson, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year. But, beyond him, there isn’t much to count on consistently in the passing game.

Two of Rodgers’ favorites from his time with the Green Bay Packers, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, were signed in the offseason to appease him. But, both played poorly as two of the worst-graded wide receivers in the NFL. Lazard was a healthy scratch at one point this season for how poorly he was playing.

Could the Jets try and acquire another one of Rodgers’ former teammates this offseason? That is what Alex Kay of Bleacher Report believes could happen. In a piece titled, “2024 NFL Offseason Trades That Make Too Much Sense to Actually Happen” Kay listed Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams to the Jets as one of those deals.

“The ideal fix for this problem would be a trade for Davante Adams. Although Adams is on the wrong side of 30 and is in the twilight of his sterling career, he’s finishing up his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season and still seems to have plenty left in the tank. The Las Vegas Raiders’ acquisition of the star receiver two years ago hasn’t resulted in team success and could lead the organization to deal Adams away as it prepares to rebuild this offseason.

If the Jets can find a way to bring Adams in on the cheap and reunite him with Rodgers, it will almost guarantee this team fields one of the NFL’s premier passing offenses next season. The battery played together with the Green Bay Packers for eight highly productive years and could replicate those successes in the Big Apple.”

What could a trade between the Raiders and Jets look like? Kay suggested that New York send a 2025 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick to Las Vegas to get a deal done.

It would be interesting to see if the Raiders would consider that enough to get a deal done. They traded first and second-round picks to the Packers during the 2022 offseason to acquire Adams and could hold out for a first-rounder. That may be a price too steep for the Jets, but it would not be surprising if another franchise was willing to pay that premium for the All-Pro pass catcher.

But, making a splash of that magnitude is almost a must for the Jets. Lazard, who has 23 receptions for 311 yards and one touchdown, is the second most productive wide receiver on the roster. That is something that needs to change, even with a healthy Rodgers, as it isn’t a recipe for sustained success.
