Miami Dolphins
For a team that’s in a rebuild as in the case of the Miami Dolphins, the Jamal Adams trade doesn’t have too much influence on the 2020 season directly from the perspective of a playoff spot. Instead, it could have more impact on draft position for next year’s selection order.
Perhaps most intriguing will be how both organizations can compare when adding talent through the NFL Draft in the coming years. While many have focused on comparing the compensation from the Adams trade to what the Dolphins received for Minkah Fitzpatrick, it’s important to consider the Laremy Tunsil trade instead.
The Dolphins’ deal with the Houston Texans centered around Tunsil will afford them an extra pick in the initial two rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft. The Jets will have multiple first-round selections as well, making the possibilities for the AFC East quite fascinating.
For the 2020 season, a lot of focus will be placed on when Tua Tagovailoa will take over the starting quarterback spot, and rightfully so. It’s highly likely an adjustment period will be required, but not having to go up against Adams in matchups with the Jets should only help.
With the pieces the Dolphins added, it wouldn’t be improbable to see them finish better than last in the AFC East standings. Managing to achieve such a result would show real progress in Miami’s efforts to rebuild early in the process, leaving plety of intrigue for the years to come.
