Jets Linked As Possible Bill Belichick Landing Spot

The next few weeks are vastly important for the New York Jets. Aaron Rodgers has continually said that he will be returning to the lineup at some point in December. But, for that to happen, there has to be something to return to.

It’s a big enough risk letting Rodgers back on the field only three months after tearing his Achilles in Week 1. Doing so without having a chance to make the playoffs and contend for a Super Bowl would be malpractice on the Jets’ part.

If the Jets end up missing the playoffs, it will be interesting to see how they handle things on the offseason. Will everyone get a pass after Rodgers suffered an injury? Or will major changes be made as it would be three playoff-less seasons for Robert Saleh as head coach?

The issues the team has aren’t all his fault, but he is part of the problem. Continuing to run Zach Wilson out as the starting quarterback is putting the team in danger of torpedoing a second straight season that had some promise.

If a change is made on the coaching staff, could the Jets be in the Bill Belichick market again? His reign with the New England Patriots began 23 days after he resigned from the head coaching position with the Jets 23 years ago. Should he and the Patriots part ways, Bruce Ewing of Yardbarker believes he could make a return to New York.

“How’s that for a wild card? Team owner Woody Johnson tried to make a splash in the offseason by trading for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. If the team continues their losing ways, why not double down by adding a rival coach in 2024?

If the team decides to move on from Robert Saleh after three years, a Belichick-Rodgers combination could be too good to pass up. The Jets are 12-38 against the Patriots under Belichick’s tenure including a 15-10 loss in Week 3,” wrote Ewing.

That would certainly be a splash for Johnson bringing Belichick aboard. But, would the presence of Joe Douglas be something that deters a move for Belichick? If he wants full autonomy, which he left New York for originally, Douglas will have to be fired or reassigned elsewhere in the organization.

Bringing on the person who has provided the Jets with more pain and suffering than anyone else for decades would be a full-circle moment. Going there and setting the all-time wins record playing for one of the Patriots’ rivals would be a feather in Belichick’s cap for sure.
