The Washington Football Team elected to move on from Jordan Reed after an off-and-on struggle with injuries. That opened up the opportunity for the San Francisco 49ers to sign him on a low-risk, high-reward type of one-year deal.
Reed, 30, was unable to participate in any of Washington’s regular season games during the 2019 season. It wasn’t until the offseason that he was cleared from concussion protocol and despite that, he made it clear he wanted to continue playing football.
Overall, the process to get cleared from concussion protocol took Reed six months. There were concerns from teams around the NFL that he may run into some issues in the health department if he were to suffer another concussion.
If Reed can stay healthy–obviously, that’s a major if–the 49ers’ offense could be quite intriguing. Being able to pair an elite tight end like George Kittle with a receiving threat like Reed would present some intriguing options for San Francisco.
With that, let’s take a look at how Jordan Reed has fared so far with the San Francisco 49ers in training camp, and why he could be a major X-Factor in 2020.
