Justin Herbert Has Made Insane History In First Two Years With Chargers

Justin Herbert, Chargers

When the Los Angeles Chargers selected Justin Herbert with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, they knew they were getting something special. After taking over as the starter in his rookie season, everyone started seeing just how special he was capable of being. Though his first two NFL seasons, Herbert has been making insane history across the entire league.

Herbert almost led the Chargers to the NFL Playoffs this season. Unfortunately, the team came up just short in Week 18 to the Las Vegas Raiders. Losing by a field goal in overtime to end the season will only motivate Herbert to come back even stronger next season.

Throughout his first two years in the league, the numbers that Herbert has put up have been unmatched. Pro Football Focus shared a few stats to show just how good the young quarterback has been.

Wow. Leading the NFL history books in completions, passing touchdowns, and passing yards through two years is insane. Herbert is one of the league’s rising superstars, but he’s also on pace to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time.

Granted, it’s a bit too early to give that title to him just yet. However, if he continues on the pace he has started his career with, Herbert will be mentioned among names like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Of course, we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves here.

The only thing that the Chargers need to focus on moving forward is building their team around Herbert. They need to get better on both sides of the football. Almost making the playoffs silly is not going to work.

Too many times in NFL history, a star quarterback has been wasted without the team winning a Super Bowl. Los Angeles cannot afford for that to be the case with Herbert. The Chargers have been waiting a long time to be a Super Bowl contender, and now they have that opportunity with their franchise quarterback leading the way.

Expect to see Justin Herbert continue playing at the level he has shown all of us through two seasons. These past two years have not been a fluke. This kid is one of the most talented quarterbacks that the NFL has seen in recent history and it will be fun to see where his career takes him moving forward.
