Is Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid nearing the end of the road?

Reid is currently preparing to coach his fifth Super Bowl this weekend, and four of them have come with the Chiefs.

But could this be the last time Reid has the opportunity to do this?

It doesn’t seem like it.

In spite of retirement rumors swirling, Reid is insisting that he is not yet ready to retire.

“My mom and dad told me this when they were working,” Reid explained, via Adam Teicher of ESPN. “They said, ‘You’ll know when it’s time,’ and I’m ready to go right now. Let’s go. That’s what they would tell me when I was young. I was an inquisitive kid and so that’s the way I look [at it]. Somewhere you’re going to know when it’s time. Today’s not the day.”

Reid has been an NFL head coach since 1999, when he became coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent 14 seasons with the Eagles before taking the Chiefs job in 2013.

Kansas City chairman Clark Hunt added that he has not received any indication that Reid will be calling it quits after the season.

“I don’t have a sense for what he’s thinking,” Hunt said. “I do know he’s really engaged and enjoying it and I have no sense that he’s going to be ready to retire in the near future. But in terms of how long it goes, I don’t know. Certainly I hope it’s a long time in the future, but we’ll just have to see as we go.”

Between the Eagles and the Chiefs, Reid has gone 283-160-1 (including playoffs) while winning 14 division titles. That includes eight straight AFC West division crowns in Kansas City, a streak that is still active.

Reid took Philadelphia to the Super Bowl during the 2004-05 campaign, where Philly ultimately lost to the New England Patriots. He has already won a pair of championships with the Chiefs.

Andy Reid and Co. will take on the San Francisco 49ers for all the marbles this Sunday.
