Kansas City Chiefs Could Steal Pro Bowl Defender From Bills

Could the Kansas City Chiefs bag a former Buffalo Bills defender?

David Latham of Last Word On Sports makes the suggestion, urging the Chiefs to sign safety Micah Hyde, who was not re-signed by the cash-strapped Bills in free agency.

“While Trent McDuffie is great and Chamarri Conner showed some promise as a rookie, this team needs to find at least one more cornerback and could use another safety,” wrote Latham. “Micah Hyde is a cost-effective free agent, and having a player who can patrol the deep part of the field is vital when opposing offenses will be throwing early and often to try and keep up with Patrick Mahomes.”

Hyde is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played 14 games and registered 54 tackles, a couple of interceptions and seven passes defended.

The 33-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Iowa, was originally selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Packers and was a steady contributor in their secondary, but Hyde did not really break out until he got to Buffalo in 2017.

That season, Hyde made his first and only trip to the Pro Bowl after racking up 82 tackles, five picks and 13 passes defended. He was also named a Second-Team All-Pro.

He went on to spend seven seasons with the Bills, earning another Second-Team All-Pro selection in 2021 after finishing with 74 tackles, a sack, five interceptions, a forced fumble, a couple of fumble recoveries, 10 passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

Hyde has certainly declined in recent years, as injuries limited him to just two games in 2022, but he would certainly provide some depth to a Chiefs defensive backfield that could probably use it.
