New England Patriots Could Snag Major Sleeper Quarterback

The New England Patriots own the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month, and the general expectation is that they will select a quarterback.

At least one of LSU’s Jayden Daniels or North Carolina’s Drake Maye will be on the board at that selection, and some even feel the Patriots may lean toward Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.

But could New England double down on signal-callers?

Chris Mason of MassLive.com thinks so.

Mason projects the Pats to take Maye with the third pick, but he also has the Patriots selecting another quarterback later in the draft: Tennessee’s Joe Milton.

Mason has Milton going to New England in the sixth round, and ironically enough, it’s the pick that the Pats acquired from the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Mac Jones trade.

On top of that, let’s remember that the Patriots took Tom Brady in the sixth round back in 2000.

Could history repeat itself?

We probably shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves, but there is no doubt that Milton is an intriguing prospect.

This past season, Milton threw for 2,813 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 64.7 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 299 yards and seven scores.

While those numbers aren’t overly impressive, Milton’s physical attributes are. He stands 6-foot-5 and weighs in the neighborhood of 240 pounds, and he has a cannon for an arm.

No one will excuse him for an early-round pick, but there is a chance that Milton could be a major sleeper late in the draft. Perhaps for the Patriots.
