Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a living legend and already one of the NFL’s all-time greats, and at age 28, he is starting to make his presence felt in the history books.

Last season, he led the Chiefs to their second Super Bowl championship in four years while winning his second Super Bowl MVP in that same time span. He also claimed his second regular season MVP award after winning his first one in 2018, which was his first season as a starter in the league.

Kansas City has looked a bit deficient while winning three of its first four games to start the 2023 season, and it struggled against the beleaguered New York Jets on Sunday, as it prevailed by just three points.

Mahomes didn’t play well, throwing two interceptions and getting outplayed by much-maligned New York signal-caller Zach Wilson. But late in the first quarter, he connected on a touchdown pass to tight end Noah Gray, which allowed him to accomplish an important milestone.

It was his 200th touchdown pass, and by getting there in 84 career games, he surpassed the legendary Dan Marino by becoming the fastest player to reach that milestone.

While Travis Kelce continues to be the best tight end in the NFL, whether or not he’s actually dating pop star Taylor Swift, the Chiefs have some serious questions at the wide receiver position. With JuJu Smith-Schuster, their most productive wideout in 2022, gone to the New England Patriots, they need to find a reliable threat at that position.

Through four games, their most productive wideout has been Justin Watson with 163 yards. His career high in that category was a mere 315 yards in 17 games last year.

However, people around the NFL by now have learned not to bet against Patrick Mahomes. He is a magician, and one has to assume he will find a way to put his team in the championship conversation this winter. When any quarterback starts breaking Dan Marino records, you know they’re extremely special.
