During the first half of the Super Bowl, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce expressed some frustration by screaming at head coach Andy Reid and bumping him on the sideline.
Many were understandably taken back by Kelce’s actions, especially considering that it took Reid completely by surprise and almost knocked him over.
Well, on his first New Heights podcast since the Super Bowl win, Kelce apologized for the incident, calling it “definitely unacceptable,” via Ben Morse and Jill Martin of CNN.
“I can’t get that fired up to the point where bumping Coach and it’s getting him off balance and stuff,” said Kelce. “When he stumbled, I was like: ‘Aw, (expletive)’ in my head.”
Kelce was angry that Reid had taken him out of the game for a play when the Chiefs were near the goal line. Running back Isiah Pacheco fumbled on the play, which caused Kelce’s frustrations to boil over.
Now, the 34-year-old star wishes that Reid would have retaliated.
“I deserve it,” Kelce said. “If he would have cold cocked me in the face right there, I would have just ate it. I would have been like: ‘Let’s (expletive) go.'”
After a slow start, Kelce ended up logging nine catches for 93 yards in Kansas City’s 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
It capped a remarkable playoff run for Kelce, who amassed 32 grabs for 355 yards and three touchdowns in four games.
On the season overall, Kelce caught 93 passes for 984 yards and five scores en route to his ninth straight Pro Bowl selection.
Winning cures all ills, so Travis Kelce and Andy Reid are surely fine now. However, you have to wonder how the reaction would have been had the Chiefs lost.
