The Green Bay Packers have become one of the elite Super Bowl contenders in the NFL over the last six weeks. After starting the season with a brutal 38-3 loss at the hands of the New Orleans Saints, the Packers have gone 6-0. They are 6-1 heading into Week 8 and certainly appear to be firmly in contention in the NFC.
While they are without a doubt a Super Bowl contender, there are some concerns for the Packers. One of the main concerns is the health of superstar cornerback Jaire Alexander.
No one truly knows whether Alexander will be able to play again this season. With him sidelined, Green Bay has had a tough time in the defensive backfield. Ahead of the NFL trade deadline, it would not be shocking to see the Packers make a move or at least look at making a move.
Fansided.com mentioned Denver Broncos cornerback Kyle Fuller as a potential trade target for the Packers. Not only would the deal make sense for both teams, but Green Bay and Fuller do have a history together. In 2018, Green Bay signed Fuller to a big-time offer sheet, but the Chicago Bears decided to match it.
Fuller has not panned out well with the Broncos in his first season in Denver. He has played in six games and has recorded 17 total tackles, no interceptions, and just two defended passes. Denver was hoping for a much bigger difference maker when they acquired Fuller from the Bears.
Could Denver consider moving Fuller ahead of the NFL trade deadline that’s coming up soon? If they do, the Packers should be the first team calling them. Their previous interest in signing him makes it clear that they like the kind of player he is and the level of play that he brings to the field.
However, if the Packers feel that Alexander will be able to return this season, they may stand pat. Rookie cornerback Eric Stokes has look great and the duo of Stokes and Alexander will be tough to throw against long-term.
On the other hand, if Green Bay isn’t expecting Alexander to come back, Kyle Fuller could be the right move. He is in the final year of his deal and would be well worth a mid-to-late-round pick to bring him on board. After all, the Packers need to be in a Super Bowl or bust mentality this season with the future of Aaron Rodgers up in the air.
