The Las Vegas Raiders may be suddenly winning, but that doesn’t necessarily mean wide receiver Davante Adams is happy with the way things are going.
Earlier this season, Adams expressed displeasure with the Raiders following a 1-3 start, criticizing the organizational culture and saying that he does not have time to wait around.
Las Vegas then proceeded to win two straight games, most recently defeating the New England Patriots this past Sunday.
You would think the recent wins would have assuaged Adams’ doubts, but that apparently isn’t the case.
“It’s a work in progress obviously and we’re gonna continue to work through it,” Adams told reporters, via the Raiders’ team website. “But I am a human being and I have extremely high standards for myself and this offense. So, to me it’s not just about—I’m sure people are thinking, ‘They won the game, they won the Packers game, so why is there an issue?’ You see why there’s an issue. Y’all should know who I am, know what I’m about at this point.”
It’s not difficult to see why Adams is bothered.
The six-time Pro Bowler logged just two catches for 29 yards against the Patriots and has amassed a grand total of six catches for 74 yards on just nine targets over the past two weeks.
For comparison’s sake, Adams caught 21 passes on 33 targets in the preceding two games.
“When you’re a player like me, mentally my benchmark is not wins and losses, it’s greatness,” Adams added. “So when I go out there, I expect to be able to have that ability to put that on tape and have an influence on the game. Like I say every week, that’s my purpose for being here. I’m not here to hang out and all of that stuff, hang out with Derek (Carr, last year’s starter) like that stuff from last year. I came here to win.”
Obviously, Davante Adams is not happy with his role, which would once again fuel trade chatter with the Oct. 31 NFL deadline looming.
On the season overall, the 30-year-old has hauled in 39 receptions for 471 yards and three touchdowns.
