The Las Vegas Raiders have made some major moves during the legal tampering period of the 2024 NFL Free Agency. Their biggest splash was agreeing to a deal with defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who signed a four-year deal worth a maximum of $110 million with $84.75 million guaranteed.

The Raiders also added some competition to their quarterback room. The team is moving on from veteran Jimmy Garoppolo but wasted no time in finding a replacement for him and someone to battle it out with Aidan O’Connell.

Las Vegas agreed to a two-year, $25 million deal that has $15 million guaranteed. That kind of contract certainly hints that Minshew will have a chance to at least have a chance to win the starting job against O’Connell.

Alas, whoever wins the quarterback job will have one less target to work with in the passing game. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Raiders are planning to release wide receiver Hunter Renfrow when the new league year starts later on Wednesday.

Renfrow would have counted $13.7 million against the cap had he remained on the roster, but the Raiders have opted to clear that. He will be a free agent after spending the first five seasons of his career with the franchise.

Renfrow had an excellent 2021 campaign, setting career highs with 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns. He earned his first, and to this point only Pro Bowl nomination for that performance.

The Raiders awarded him with a two-year, $32 million extension in 2022, which they quickly regretted. He hasn’t been anywhere near as productive in the following two seasons, as injuries derailed him in 2022 before he fell out of favor in 2023.

Renfrow was on the chopping block the moment Dave Zeigler and Josh McDaniels came to town. After they signed Jakobi Meyers in free agency in 2023, Renfrow saw his playing time and opportunities plummet, playing a career-low 35 percent of the offensive snaps.
