The Los Angeles Chargers were hit with a devastating blow in Week 3, as wide receiver Mike Williams suffered a torn ACL in a win over the Minnesota Vikings.

The Chargers were able to pull out a win over the Las Vegas Raiders without Williams this past Sunday, but it would certainly behoove Los Angeles to add another wide out to replace him.

It looks like the Bolts are attempting to do just that.

League sources say that the Chargers called the Chicago Bears to inquire about Chase Claypool, but discussions between the two sides did not get very far (via MLFootball). Apparently, Los Angeles will continue searching for receiver help.

Williams, who turned 29 on Wednesday, had already logged 19 catches for 249 yards and a touchdown this season prior to his injury.

The Vance, S.C. native, who played his collegiate football at Clemson, was selected by the Chargers with the seventh overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

While Williams has had somewhat of an inconsistent professional career, he has still manage to post a pair of 1,000-yard campaigns, most recently doing so in 2021 when he hauled in 76 receptions for 1,146 yards. Both of those numbers were career highs. He also added nine touchdowns.

Known for his big-play ability, Williams broke out during his sophomore campaign when he caught 43 passes for 664 yards and 10 scores. Then, the following year, he snared 49 balls for 1,001 yards, good for a league-best average of 20.4 yards per catch. He reached the end zone twice that season.

Last year, Williams posted 63 catches for 895 yards and four touchdowns.

The Chargers have won two games in a row to climb up to .500 after an 0-2 start. They will have a bye this week before hosting the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, Oct. 16.
