Chargers Named Trade Destination For Vikings’ Justin Jefferson

If the Minnesota Vikings trade wide receiver Justin Jefferson, could the Los Angeles Chargers represent a potential landing spot for him?

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks so.

It certainly makes sense, considering that the Chargers just subtracted their top two wide outs this offseason in trading Keenan Allen and releasing Mike Williams.

Justin Herbert will need someone to throw to, and what better option than Jefferson?

Of course, this is assuming the Vikings will even put Jefferson on the trade block to begin with, but it certainly seems to be more of a possibility now than it did a month ago.

Minnesota has still not reached an agreement on a contract extension with Jefferson, who is entering the final year of his deal. The Vikings also failed to re-sign quarterback Kirk Cousins and currently have no clue who will be taking snaps in 2024, which could serve as a deterrent to Jefferson if the team does sit down at the negotiating table with him.

The fact that Minnesota has dragged its feet in trying to extend Jefferson is definitely strange given the fact that he is widely regarded as the best receiver in football. Plus, he is still just 24 years old (he turns 25 in June).

But, if the Vikings are deciding to go with an all-out rebuild, they may feel that trading Jefferson and recouping a ton of assets is the best course of action.

Los Angeles owns the fifth overall pick in the NFL Draft next month. Could the two clubs find a match there?

The Chargers may very well want to draft a receiver themselves, so why not just trade the pick for an already proven superstar in Jefferson?

Of course, Minnesota would probably ask for more than just the No. 5 pick, but with Herbert already in place in LA, it might not be a bad idea for the Bolts to pull the trigger and surrender a substantial package for Justin Jefferson. They would also obviously need to sign him to an extension.
