Rams Trade For Colts’ Jonathan Taylor In Bold Proposal

Jonathan Taylor, Rams, Colts

Jonathan Taylor’s time as a member of the Indianapolis Colts seems to be running out.

The star running back is currently on the PUP list as he recovers from an ankle injury he suffered at the end of last season. While Taylor is eligible to return in Week 5, many feel that he has played his last down as member of the Colts.

Taylor is currently in the middle of a contract dispute with Indianapolis, as the Colts declined to give him a contract extension. Taylor asked for a trade, and Indy gave him permission to seek one.

While it is still entirely plausible that Taylor will play out the 2023 campaign with the Colts, there appears to be a strong chance that Indianapolis ultimately moves him before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

The Los Angeles Rams seem to be a perfect fit for Taylor.

The Rams have a very thin backfield, and it looks as if their patience with Cam Akers has run dry. Akers was a healthy scratch in the club’s Week 2 loss to the San Francisco 49ers after carrying the ball 22 times for just 29 yards in a Week 1 upset win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Since being taken in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Akers has been a disappointment in Los Angeles, and it seems like it’s a matter of time before LA moves on from him.

The Colts would be the perfect trading partners for the Rams. Los Angeles could send Akers and a 2024 second-round draft pick Indy’s way in exchange for the disgruntled Taylor.

That way, the Colts recoup some value for Taylor before he ultimately walks in free agency in the spring. Part of that value includes a 24-year-old halfback with talent in Akers. Perhaps all Akers needs is a change of scenery?

For the Rams, Jonathan Taylor would significantly bolster an offense that is a far cry from the unit that won the Super Bowl two years ago. His presence would take considerable pressure off of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who seems to be a shell of his former self due to injuries.
