Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is on pace to set the NFL’s single-season record for receiving yards, but he still defers to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as to whom the team’s most important player is.

When asked if he thinks he should win the MVP award this season, Hill said no.

“No, because we have a player on our team who’s better than me and means more to this team,” said Hill, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic.

Through eight games this season, Tyreek Hill leads the league in both receiving yards (1,014) and receiving touchdowns (eight) and has hauled in 61 receptions. There is no doubt that he is well on his way to making his eighth Pro Bowl appearance in eight seasons while also earning a fourth First-Team All-Pro selection. So, for him to give that much credit to Tagovailoa speaks volumes of just how highly the signal-caller is valued in the locker room.

Tagovailoa himself leads the NFL in a few categories, pacing the league in passing yards (2,416), passing touchdowns (18 – tied with Kirk Cousins, who is now out for the season) and passer rating (108.8). He is also completing 70.4 percent of his throws.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by the Dolphins with the fifth overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

It took Tagovailoa until his third season to truly break out, as he threw for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 64.8 percent of his passes and registering a league-leading passer rating of 105.5. That production came over the course of 13 games, as Tua Tagovailoa missed some time due to concussions.

The Ewa Beach, Hi. native is angling to make his first trip to the Pro Bowl this season.

Miami has gotten off to a 6-2 start this season and currently sits in first place in the AFC East. The Dolphins will head to Germany to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in a potential playoff preview on Sunday.
