Reflecting on the past, one can’t help but marvel at the remarkable 2023 transfer portal class that Jim Harbaugh and his coaching team successfully assembled. This class played a pivotal role in the Michigan Wolverines’ phenomenal 15-0 season, which culminated in the program’s first national championship win since 1997.

While many of the 2023 team’s standout players are making their way to the NFL, one crucial Michigan football defender is opting to remain with the Wolverines for another year: the talented edge rusher, Josaiah Stewart.

Arriving at Michigan football from Coastal Carolina, Josaiah Stewart arrived with a clear objective in the spring: to demonstrate that he belonged in a conference as competitive as the Big Ten.

Throughout the 2023 season, he did precisely that, making appearances in 13 games for the Wolverines and earning well-deserved All-Big Ten honorable mention recognition.

In his single season as a Wolverine, Stewart showcased his prowess by amassing impressive statistics. He tallied 38 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks, which are undeniably remarkable achievements.

On a Monday morning, Stewart officially declared his decision to continue his journey with Michigan football for one more season, sharing the news via a social media announcement.

Stewart’s choice to stay in the college ranks is particularly significant as it comes on the heels of other Michigan edge rushers, such as Braiden McGregor and Jaylen Harrell, announcing their intentions to enter the NFL draft.

Stewart’s return is bound to be a linchpin for the Wolverines’ defense as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming 2024 season.
