The New England Patriots actually had a pretty good pass defense this past season, ranking seventh in the NFL in that category. However, they are still looking for upgrades.
According to Tyler Dragon of USA Today, the Patriots are one of numerous teams who have expressed interest in trading for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.
The Chiefs slapped a franchise tag on Sneed, but rumor has it that they plan on trading the star corner, as they may not be able to afford him to long term.
Sneed is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played 16 games and registered 78 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a fumble recovery and 14 passes defended.
The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisiana Tech, was selected by Kansas City in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He appeared in nine contests during his rookie year, logging 41 tackles, a pair of sacks, three picks and seven passes defended. The following season, Sneed showed some progression, participating in 15 games and recording 76 tackles, a sack, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and eight passes defended.
Sneed then proceeded to break out in 2022, racking up 108 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three picks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 11 passes defended.
Most importantly, the Minden, La. native has helped lead the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl championships.
Because Kansas City has to pay defensive lineman Chris Jones as well, Sneed will likely be the odd man out, and New England apparently wants him.
We’ll see if the Pats try and make something happen with the Chiefs and Sneed in the coming weeks.
