While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently seen as the top contenders to retain Baker Mayfield, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah suggests that another team, often overlooked, might emerge as a potential suitor for the quarterback. That team is the New England Patriots.
According to Jeremiah, the Patriots could be considering making a move for Mayfield.
“Don’t sleep on the New England Patriots. If the New England Patriots are in the Baker business, then the No. 3 pick is up for sale. And now the dominoes start going and we can really have some fun.”
If the Patriots were to secure Mayfield, it could potentially alter their draft strategy. They might choose to trade their pick or retain it, focusing instead on selecting the best available player outside of the quarterback position.
Such a decision would allow them to address two significant needs within a short timeframe.
Mayfield’s performance during the previous season was stellar and played a pivotal role in the Buccaneers reaching the NFC divisional round of the playoffs.
He concluded the regular season with impressive stats: 4,044 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions, marking a standout year in his career statistically.
Regardless of which team ultimately signs Baker Mayfield, it’s expected that he will receive a substantial contract as a reward for his contributions.
