With the New England Patriots off to a slow start, could Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins be an answer for them at the quarterback position?
It has been a rough few seasons for the Patriots since Tom Brady went to Tampa Bay. The quarterback position was once one of strength for the Patriots, now it has become one of liability.
For the past few seasons, it has been mostly Mac Jones as the quarterback of the Patriots. Jones was a national champion with Alabama, and the Patriots drafted him 15th overall in 2021.
In his rookie season, Jones played in 17 games and played quite well. Jones totaled 22 touchdown passes, 13 interceptions, and was just under 4,000 yards passing. It looked like the Patriots had a good young quarterback on their hands. However, he has since regressed, as his touchdowns to interception ratio has been going in the wrong direction.
With the Patriots sitting at 1-3 on the season, a recent hypothetical trade proposal by B/R had a deal that sends Kirk Cousins to the Patriots for a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick.
Cousins has been frequently mentioned who could be traded this season because of the struggles of the Vikings and the need at quarterback for a lot of teams.
For the Patriots, adding Cousins would be an interesting move. Not only would Cousins potentially help them this season, but he is still young enough to be a factor for the team in the next couple of years as well. While the Vikings are struggling this season, Cousins is once again having a strong season and would be an upgrade for the Patriots at the position.
After years of getting great play from the quarterback position, Bill Belichick has to be getting frustrated with the Patriots’ offense the last few seasons. It would be a bold move to go after Cousins, but it could be realistically because of the struggles of Jones.
