Saints Receive Brutal Injury Update On Key Offensive Piece

New Orleans Saints
NFL Analysis Network

The New Orleans Saints are fresh off of a hard-fought 20-17 win over the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football in Week 2. With the win, they moved to 2-0 on the season. Looking ahead, they are set to take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in what should be a very entertaining game.

One major negative that came away from the Week 2 win was the injury update that the Saints have received on running back Jamaal Williams.

Williams suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to “take some time to get back.” That would mean he’s out for Week 3 against his former team. Alvin Kamara is also still out for one more week due to suspension.

Looking ahead to this week’s game, the Saints will have their work cut out for them. With both Kamara and Williams out, New Orleans will turn to Kendre Miller as their top back. They may have to bring in another running back for at least this week’s game.

Derek Carr will have much more responsibility placed on his shoulders due to the running game issues as well. He has had a solid, yet inconsistent first two games with the Saints, completing 63.8 percent of his pass attempts for 533 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Green Bay has shown signs of having a good defense this year, but they fell apart in the second half against the Atlanta Falcons. Carr will be facing plenty of pressure and a secondary more than capable of making plays. The Saints will need to focus on taking care of the football and taking what the defense gives them.

Hopefully, Williams is able to recover quickly for the Saints. Getting him back along with Kamara will finally give them the one-two punch that they have envisioned alongside Carr in the backfield.
